Zoiper is a desktop and mobile SIP softphone developed by a company called Securax LTD. It is available for Android phones and tables, Apple phones and tablets, Windows, OSX, Linux, and more. It can be configured to work with a variety of services, including Ringfree’s VoIP telephone service. Zoiper is free to download and use.
Because Zoiper is not a Ringfree product, we’re limited in the degree of support we can offer for it, however we’re happy to provide setup assistance. Zoiper offers limited free technical support and has several tiers of premium support plans. For more information click here.
It’s important to know that if you have Ringfree telephone service, you have an extension within your phone system. In order to prevent conflicts between Zoiper (or another softphone) and your desk phone, a clone of your extension will need to be created. To create the cloned extension, simply contact Ringfree’s technical support.
It’s also worth noting that some cellular carriers, notably Verizon, block SIP traffic on the default port used by Zoiper and other softphones. This effects softphone use on the carrier’s mobile data network but has no effect while using a WiFi connection. To circumvent this, Ringfree will need to open an auxiliary port for SIP traffic. Please indicate your cellular carrier when communicating with Ringfree’s technical support.
Zoiper Mobile Application Setup
Once Zoiper has been installed, proceed to open the application. Upon opening, Zoiper will prompt you to upgrade to a premium version. You may scroll down and press Cancel to dismiss this message.
Tap the button labeled Config in the upper right corner of the screen, tap the option labeled Accounts, and then tap the option labeled Add account. A popup will ask if you already have an account, press the button labeled Yes. A second popup will prompt you to choose between Select a provider or Manual configuration. Select Manual configuration.
On the next screen you will be asked to choose an account type. Select the option labeled SIP.
On the SIP Account screen, note the fields labeled:
- Account Name
- Outbound proxy
In the field labeled Host, please enter the following:
In the field labeled Username, please enter the number of the extension you would like associated with your Zoiper installation. Normally this will be the cloned extension mentioned above rather than your normal extension number. You may contact Ringfree technical support or your IT provider if you have questions as to what to put here.
For the Password field, please consult with your IT provider or with Ringfree technical support.
In the field labeled Outbound proxy, please enter the following:
Once all the above has been entered, press the button labeled Save toward the bottom of the screen. You now have completed the steps necessary to configure Zoiper on your mobile device. If there are no errors with the configuration options, you should see a green check mark beside the Account Name with the message Account is ready underneath.
Press the Back key (provided by the operating system, not the app) and tap the Dialer option at the top let corner of the screen. You can now make and receive phone calls from your mobile device using your Ringfree VoIP telephone service.
